The Chaos

What is it about May? There is hardly a day in the calendar for the month where we don’t have some “end of year” celebration/banquet/ceremony/acknowledgment. Don’t get me wrong, it is all wonderful stuff. I LOVE graduation parties, and every time someone announces my kids name for anything, even if it’s just to acknowledge them as a member of a team, I get a little proud and misty-eyed. But suddenly we are in the middle of May, and I feel like all I did was blink. And gain 30 pounds from bottomless pizza. So much end of year pizza! Listen, pizza is one of my desert island food choices, but still. It’s a lot.

I guess I shouldn’t complain. In the not-so-distant future, my daughter will graduate from high school and then a lot of these things will stop. Although who am I kidding, I will somehow always fill the space. I have Midshipmen I sponsor, and then the kids will graduate from college, and there are garden parties and fundraisers, and, well, maybe it’s just May. It’s nice outside, there aren’t many mosquitoes yet, and once I plant the flowers they look amazing before the frying heat of summer comes in. It’s just a nice time of year to hold events. I wear a lot of hats and something tells me, when I take a few hats off, I will find some other cute ones to wear.
